Meet Sukotto: Lover of languages and TV!

Since 2010 Sukotto has been enthusiastically contributing to the site. One of his biggest accomplishments was this year when he became a Supervisor. He has won numerous awards and badges: AnswerThon Runner Up, TIP graduate, Site Guardian for Vandal Patrol, Noble WikiGuide for Community Outreach and Mentoring Program Mentor! Sukotto has seen and done it all on the site. His favorite categories are in the Language and Music and Drama (Kpop) categories. He is a hardworking university student who is devoted to learning languages – especially Japanese – and psychology. He loves his native country, Australia, and he is an inspiration on the site. Read more to find out why!

What is your first name?

My name is Scott.

What is your occupation?

I’m currently studying at the university to become a psychologist. I’m also studying linguistics!

What is your Answers.com username and how did it come about?

My username is Sukotto, which is the Japanese transliteration of my first name. It’s written as スコット in Japanese and is pretty much pronounced like “Scotto.”

Where in the world do you hail from and what makes this place special?Australia11

I’m a born and bred Aussie! I’ve lived in Sydney, Australia my whole life, apart from brief stints of travelling. There’s so much about Australia that makes it special and that’s why I love it! Australia is home to 20 of the 25 most venomous snakes in the world. (I hope that didn’t scare you away.) Our wildlife is incredible and so diverse. It’s truly a beautiful country, and that’s why I’m so happy to live here.

slothIf you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I’d be a fennec fox because they’re just so cute! Actually, no. I wanna be a sloth! They’re cute too, and they have the most appealing lifestyle ever! Who wouldn’t want to be a sloth for at least a day?

What is your favorite thing to do on Answers.com?

I have a pretty short attention span, so this varies from day to day. I mostly like to monitor Recent Site Activity and welcome new members. I used to enjoy answering questions, especially in the language categories, but I’ve recently discovered that I love the organisation side of Answers.com as well.

If you were inviting someone to join Answers.com, what reason(s) would you give that person to become a part of our community?

It’s because of the community, definitely. The people who use the site are an amazing group of people. They’ve all been nothing but friendly and helpful, which is why I’m so glad to be a part of this fantastic group. I would also sell the fact that you can enrich other people’s knowledge and understanding of the world by contributing to Answers.com. That would inspire anyone!

What accomplishments on Answers.com are you proud of?

I am proud of becoming a Supervisor, as well as graduating from TIP (The Initiates Program). I was also extremely happy to graduate from the Mentoring Program. I have an awesome mentor, Skullcandy88, to thank for the transition from ordinary contributor to Supervisor.

What is your favorite song?

Edith Piaf

Edith Piaf

This is a really hard question to answer because it changes almost daily. Some of my favourite songs would have to be “Happiness” by AI, “Love Story” by Namie Amuro, “National Anthem” by Lana Del Rey, “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran, “Non, je ne regrette rien” by Édith Piaf and “Sukiyaki” by Kyu Sakamoto.

What makes you unique?

I’m absolutely crazy about languages. My obsession shifts from one language to the next each week, too. For example, this month I’ve gone from Swedish to Greek and now to French. This cycle usually repeats itself all year long with a few random languages thrown in every so often. Once I even tried to learn Macedonian!

The only one of my lingual obsessions that I’ve always kept up with is Japanese, which I’ve been studying for quite a few years and still love.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

  • Unlimited time and money to travel
  • Decisiveness
  • A world where Hogwarts was real!

You can only pick one:  banjo, butterfly, or babbling brook.  Which would you choose and why?

I’d probably have to go with babbling brook. Why? Because it’s so much fun to say the words:  babbling brook, babbling brook, babbling brook, babbling brook…

What do you find most challenging as an Answers.com Supervisor?

The most challenging part of being a Supervisor would most definitely be dealing with people who are intentionally disruptive and rude, although, the opportunities to help truly appreciative users outweigh the former entirely. One of my biggest pet peeves on the site is answers that end with “durrr” and “duh”, so I’m usually more than happy to edit out those comments.

What do you find most challenging as an Answers.com contributor?

My biggest challenge is knowing when it’s time to log off. Seriously.

What are your special interests, hobbies, or collections?

I wouldn’t really count it as a hobby, but I’m crazy about TV. When I’m not at the university (also referred to as uni), on Answers.com or with my friends, I’m watching TV. My all-time favourite TV show would have to be Friends, followed closely by The Big Bang Theory. I don’t like to show people my DVD collection because it shows just how much TV I actually watch.

Who or what is your inspiration in life?

The idea that each day I can better myself – and the world around me – has always inspired me.

Where is one place in the world you would love to visit and why?

I’ve always wanted to visit Greece because I find its extensive history fascinating. It also looks like such a beautiful and exotic country.

What is one quirky or interesting random fact about you that most people may not know?

I have an odd fascination with physics, despite understanding very little about the subject!
