Recently Kedar bc has become a prominent participant in our AnswerThons, winning 4th place in the summer contest and 3rd in the spring contest. Valedictorian of his class, his passions include his native country and ghazal music. Read on to learn more about this very intelligent and wise contributor!

What is your first name?

My first name is Kedar.

What is your occupation?

I am a 17 year old student.

Where in the world do you hail from and what makes this place special?

I am from Pune, India. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and its origins can be traced back to the 6th century. Pune is considered to be the cultural capital of India. Also it is turning into a major research and educational hub.

How did you discover

Once I googled a physics homework question. Imagine the joy when I found that the same question was already answered on

What enticed you to join our community?

I always wanted to do community service. I thought that a great way to do so, in my capacity, was to answer other people’s questions and in the process also increase my understanding of things.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I would be an eagle because it is the one who sees it all as a free and distant observer of the bigger picture. If you can be anything, why not be the free, king of the skies.

What is your favorite thing to do on

My favorite thing is to just browse through the questions asked in my favorite categories and answer as many as I can. The satisfaction of answering questions is indescribable. Many times, I come across a question about a topic I recently studied. Trying to answer that question helps me learn new things and also make my concepts clearer.

What life accomplishments are you proud of?

Off the top of my head, I am proud that I was the valedictorian of my school. I hope in the future I will have a very long list to answer this question.

What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

I have to confess; one of the most daring things was asking my crush on a date. ;-)

What is your favorite type of music?

I love Indian music but ghazals are my favorite, and Jagjit Singh is my favorite ghazal singer. I am a big fan of A R Rahman’s music, too.

What is your favorite song?

My favorite song changes every month or so. Currently it is ‘Let it Be’. I recently downloaded the Beatles box set and I love this song. Before that my favorite song was The A Team.

What is your favorite poem and why?

My favorite poem is “The Race” by D.H. Groberg. This is a simple yet very inspirational poem about perseverance and finishing something you have started, even though you may have downfalls along the way. It tells us that winning is nothing.  More important than winning, it is ‘to rise each time you fall’.

What makes you unique?

I try to look at things differently. For example, in the proverb:  ‘A rolling stone gathers no moss’, I think moss indicates lethargy and stagnancy. So in my eyes, being a rolling stone is a good thing as you soak up new experiences. And then there is always my DNA to prove my uniqueness.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

I really want to say something like…saving the world, but if a genie really pops out and asks what I want, these are the things I will ask for.

  • Money…lots and lots of it.
  • Life till I decide to die.
  • And the ability to freeze time.

The only challenge would be to frame the requests such that the genie cannot trick me.

Do you view the glass ‘half full’ or ‘half empty’?  Why?

Definitely I view it half filled. I try to acknowledge the presence of something rather than its absence. At the same time, I remain aware that there is still a lot of space to be filled.

What do you find most challenging as an contributor?

The most challenging thing is to answer vague questions. I have to try to interpret what the person is really asking or what he really wants to know and answer that. I try not to give vague or incomplete answers. This becomes challenging because, for this, you have to know a lot about a topic.

What are your special interests, hobbies, or collections?

I love debates and elocutions. I act in dramas. I am learning to play the Indian flute called the ‘bansuri.’

What are you most passionate about in your life?

I am most passionate about my country, India. I want India to be called a developed country.

What is your favorite quote and why?

I personally don’t think that quotes have to come from great personalities. A good thought is a good thought, no matter who says it, but in the real world, unless you become ‘Someone’, ‘No one’ is interested in what you have to say. So MY quote is:

‘Be so successful that you are quoted in other people’s quotations.’

Where is one place in the world you would love to visit and why?

Right now, I want to visit Italy, especially Florence because I am reading Dan Brown’s Inferno and I want to see all the piazzas and various paintings mentioned in his other books.

What is one quirky or interesting random fact about you that most people may not know?

I don’t think it’s very interesting or uncommon, but whenever someone asks me something or in general conversation, I have a very funny (sometimes a bit sarcastic) remark ready in my mind, and sometimes I smile even when it’s not expected.

Meet Jenny1988: A Blogger from India who Loves to Answer Questions!

This week’s nascent entrepreneur, Jenny1988, is an avid blogger from India who wants to build her own online business. She believes in following her passions in life and has great sensitivity to nature and helping others. On our site, she was a Runner-Up in the recent 2012 Leap-to-Win AnswerThon, and she states that one of her many hobbies is answering questions. Read more to learn about Jenny1988 and her keen perspective on life.

What is your first name?

My first name is Jenny.

What is your occupation?

I am a student.

What is your username?

My username is Jenny1988.

Where in the world do you hail from and what makes this place special?

I’m from Pune, India. Pune is a city which has given me a whole lot of different and special memories. I’ve seen ups and downs, so it has taught me so much.

If you were inviting someone to join, what reason(s) would you give them to become a part of our community?

Helping people with knowledge and experience is the best thing that can be imparted. Sometimes it is comforting to know that other people have also faced similar situations.

What accomplishments on are you proud of?

I recently participated in an AnswerThon and became a top answerer. It was overwhelming.

What was the last song you listened to?

I listened to “Touch my Hand” by David Archuleta.

Do you view the glass ‘half full’ or ‘half empty’?  Why?

I view it as half empty because there is always room for more. There is always a possibility of improvement. A positive attitude is a good thing, but since it often leads to a laid back attitude, it cannot be applied to every walk of life.

You can only pick one:  banjo, butterfly, or babbling brook.  Which would you choose and why?

I would choose a butterfly because I love nature. The pain and hard work that it goes through to become a butterfly is not a cake walk and that shows that if there is “no pain, no gain”.

What do you find most challenging as an contributor?

The biggest challenge is not knowing the details that lead to making assumptions. This means that the askers get inaccurate or wrong advice and information.

What are your special interests, hobbies, or collections?

My hobbies include blogging, coin collections, philately, painting, and reading.

What are you most passionate about in your life?

Right now, I am most passionate to start something of my own, online, and to do this for a living.

What is your favorite quote and why?

Though it’s not my favorite, I chose the quote that I try and love to follow: “Do what you love and love what you do.”

Who or what is your inspiration in life?

There is no one specifically. My parents have always been there providing all the inspiration I need when I’m not in high spirits. But I try to see the good qualities of a person. It just gives me more insight and shows how much I can improve upon.

A Prince of a Supervisor: Vishal!

This expert in technical writing lives in tech savvy Bangalore, India.  He has a flare for dancing (salsa and freestyle) and a heart of gold.  His multiple talents are great assets to the site: Special Project Assistant, top graduate of the Mentoring Program, Copy Editor and a Wiki Guide.  In short, Vishal is a total Wikiholic with more than 100,000 contributions and counting.

What is your first name?  Vishal

What is your occupation? I am a Senior Technical Writer.

What is your username and how did it come about?

My username is Vishal: It comes from my full name, Vishal Gundu Rao. Gundu Rao is my dad’s name.

Where in the world do you hail from and what makes this place special?

I hail from Mysore, the city of palaces! It is in the state of Karnataka in India. I currently reside in Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India!

What is your favorite activity on the site? Least favorite?

My favorite activity is working on Special Project Assistant (SPA) tasks and especially the batch re-categorization which I am in love with.  My least favorite activity is to warn/block users. In fact, I hate to do it.

What enticed you to join our community?

I thought of giving back to in return for the answers I have received from the site.  Also, being a technical writer, I feel uncomfortable whenever I find bad or nonsense answers in one of the best Q&A sites I have seen.  Additionally, the friendly environment that the users create (including Supers, Program Coordinators, Community Assistants) lured me in.  That is how I became a Wikiholic.

What do you find most challenging as an Supervisor?

As they say, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’  Being a Supervisor, sometimes it is challenging not to warn new contributors who commit mistakes intentionally!  However, I end up posting an unofficial warning.

If you were inviting someone to join, what reason(s) would you give them to become a part of our community?

The main reason would be the knowledge they can gain about random topics.  In fact, I recommend to many of my friends.

What accomplishments on are you proud of?

I am most proud of the following:

What life accomplishments are you proud of?

  • I graduated and received my diploma with a double major.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

  • Health: to live longer and enjoy life with my family and friends.
  • Wealth that I can share with my family, friends and the needy.
  • Happiness, so that I can spread that around.

What is your favorite food?

My favorite is South Indian Cuisine and my mom’s homemade food!

How do you most enjoy using your creativity and why?

When doing community service, it makes me happy to see the poor, orphaned and physically challenged children smile when we closely interact with them and spend time with them.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“Time and tide wait for no man…”  This is a very simple, clear and self-explanatory proverb.  Time and tide are natural phenomena and have neither regard nor consideration for anybody.  Time and tide symbolize valuable opportunity and occur without any notice.  No one can command or foretell their occurrence or recurrence.  They are generally short-lived and pass quickly.  No one can say whether or when they would come again.  So one should be fully prepared to make the best use of an opportunity as and when it presents itself.

Where is one place in the world you would love to visit and why?

I would love to visit the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, U.S.A. because it is the happiest place on earth!

Any final words about the site? Your role? The community? Rocks!

“An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

“We must become the change we want to see.”

“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”
